It is certainly not an overstatement to say that, the study and living experience you will have abroad depends mostly on the uni you will be studying at.

For most unis getting admission is very competitive and almost all unis start accepting applications 6 months before the course start date.

Also, once you’re offered admission you would need to apply for a visa and wait for it to be granted and prepare yourself to fly.

Taking all this into account one should apply at least 3 months before their course start date to do everything smoothly.

Spring(January) & Fall (August) are the two main intakes for admissions to most unis.

For Australia:

March, July & November are the intakes for most universities.

For Canada:

January, May & September are the intakes and it varies depending on a uni/college.

The tuition fee of a university depends on a range of factors, such as its popularity, location, course choice, uni type: public/private etc.

There are two key factors every uni/college considers before offering you a place to study.

1. GPA requirements: Getting an admit to uni or a college is highly competitive. To put it simply, the better the uni, the higher is the GPA requirement. Therefore, for most unis the GPA has to be 2.2 (55%) and above.
   
   
2. English language requirements: The key requirement to get an admission anywhere is  Enghlish language test score requirements. The required score depends on factors such as level of study/ field of study/ university/ visa requirements. Therefore, for most unis the score has to be 6 bands and above.

Besides these two requirements, there can be additional requirements by unis such as SAT/GRE/GMAT scores, Work experience & Recommendations etc.

IELTS and TOEFL are the two most accepted English language tests by almost every uni and immigration authority out there.

PTE is another popular English test that is widely accepted by both the unis and the immigration authorities of Australia, Canada, the USA and the UK.

DuoLingo is the newcomer English test in the league which is now accepted by a number of unis/colleges for admission purposes. However, its acceptance with immigration authorities for visa purposes is questionable.
